Atelier Space / Department of Visual Communication at the Academy of Fine Arts

STUDIO SPACE

The Space Studio at the Department of Visual Communication at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava is a unique educational and research workplace in Central and Eastern Europe for the creation and exploration of visual communication in architecture, public space, exhibition and in the broader spatial relations of not only the physical world as conventionally understood space.

At the undergraduate level, students are introduced to the methods and scope of visual communication in space and validate their experience on smaller simulated or real assignments. Teaching is supported by thematic workshops by our external collaborators from Slovakia and abroad.

At the master's level, students formulate their own themes related to space and work on independent tasks in space, supported by research often resulting in textual or other visual output. In addition, they work in teams on assignments that are tied to the real environment of a museum, gallery or other exhibition space.

At the doctoral level, students concentrate on investigating a specific complex problem in space. The result is a publication expanding knowledge in the field of visual communication in space and its physical interpretation.

Within the KEGA research project we are working with our external collaborators to build an international SPACE / SPATIAL design programme. In parallel, we publish publications, organize seminars, discussions and support research projects of Master and PhD students in the Atelier Space.
