Human behaviour is a great source of inspiration for me. And it is connected with my unusual hobby, which is taking pictures of people professing their affection in night bars. I take notes of these people, they become my subject for my work, but I leave them anonymous. On Party Vases I painted three stories that took place over three different nights in three different venues. They are kisses between people that are definitely not affectionate, they are animalistic and full of lust. The atmosphere is dark, seemingly glossy and poisonous. Party vases are a paraphrase of Rococo porcelain vases, which are richly decorated and painted with various amorous and erotic themes. However, the delicacy and fragile eroticism of the 18th century has been replaced by the intoxication of psychedelic substances and the darkness of the 21st century.
"The wooing rituals of today, linked with the ambiance of bars, represent a strong experience to me, and intense experiences are exactly that what inspires my work. It is rather mesmerizing to watch how urban people behave. My brief observations, when I follow their journeys through their lives, stir up my imagination. I capture these anonymous, intimate love affairs at bars, and subsequently repaint them in my own hand onto glass vases in the effort to give a true picture of the atmosphere I have witnessed."
