Slavic Phantasmagoria
Sonia Górecka is a multimedia artist and designer who seeks modern translations of the aesthetics and meanings of local heritage.

In the face of constant geopolitical destabilization in the Slavic countries, even the smallest hint of an idea or a discarded scrap of a drawing can have a magical and redemptive power. Project Slavic phantasmagoria wants to reacquaint us with lost and found motifs and symbols, selected from old books with depictions of Slavic folklore, by transforming and materializing them into contemporary totemic objects. Combining old and new techniques, the installation creates a contemplative hybrid space. Tapestry brings warmth to a place where the many engraved bricks can be arbitrarily moved and combined, reflecting the constant restlessness of Slavic landscapes. Together with Slavic choral singing, it invites viewers to explore the complex play between tradition and modernity and the transformative power of reinterpreting cultural symbols in a globalized world.
